The full moon has exacted it's toll on the fishing throughout Zihuatanejo

While the marlin, sailfish and dorado continue to bite, they are much more finicky than during the past few weeks and Temo blames that on the full moon and changing water temperatures. Right now, the best fishing is in the 25 mile area, straight out from Zihuatanejo Bay and getting closer to the 1,000 fathom curve. The yellowfin tuna have moved farther offshore to the 70-mile mark and are very near being out of range for the single day trips. As it is now, it would probably require a 12-hour day and add cost to the trip. The inshore fishing has not changed and continues to be slow with off-colored, green water that persists inshore. There are currently many people in town for the Easter Holiday/Spring Break period and with any luck, we will have more anglers to go fishing.

IZ Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days with a few passing clouds and light westerly surface breezes and temps that ranged from 72 nights to 93 daytime highs. Very pleasant evenings and mornings.

Sea Conditions: Warmer waters throughout the area that ranged from 85-86 degrees inshore, extending out to about 18 miles, gradually changing to 87-88 degrees by the 1000 fathom curve. Mostly light and variable westerly surface breezes through the week that allowed for comfortable fishing conditions for the anglers. Mostly calm sea conditions prevail.

Best Fishing Area: Remains near the 25-mile mark with the temps holding at 85-86 degrees and good clarity.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits working well for the off shore waters but with the full moon, I would recommend taking some live bait, too.

Bait Supply: The bait supply continues to be good for both, fresh dead baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
