According to Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of the Fish Cabo fleet, the marlin fishing has slowed up considerably and have been moving from one location to another, almost day by day, making every day a challenge. Right now, the billfish are being caught close to Cabo Falso, along the temperature break and just a few miles offshore. However, the fish are not being overly cooperative and in fact, are down right finicky biters, adding additional challenges to the fishing day. High boat for the fishing week was the Fish Cabo, reporting in with 5 stripers released for 2 offshore fishing days. They also had a single inshore fishing day that produced 11 yellowtail, (15-20 lb. fish) and 4 respectable roosterfish in the 35-40 lb. ranges. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 16 days fished reflected 13 stripers, (12 released) 2 mako sharks, 6 roosterfish, 11 yellowtail, 10 dorado and 13 skipjack.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny, clear and warm days with temps that ranged from 64 nights to 94 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Light surface breezes mostly from the sse directions at 10-20 mph. Cool waters on the Pacific side at 63-67 degrees and considerably off-color, greenish tinted, and changing at Cabo Falso to about 75-76 degrees, then changing to a much bluer and cleaner condition into the Sea of Cortez. Rounding the corner and into the Sea of Cortez temps continue at 75-76 degrees to the inner-Gorda Bank and above. From a few miles inside the the 1150 fathom spot, up to the outer Gorda Bank and on outside beyond the 1000 fathom curve, the temps soar to 79-80 degrees.
Best Fishing Area: All of the billfish came from the Cabo Falso area as did most of the dorado.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait best for the billfish and for the dorado, too, and the roosterfish. Hoochies working best on the yellowtail.
Live Bait Supply: Remains very good with caballitos being the majority of the bait.
