Hurricane Eric's appearance in Zihuatanejo has limited the number of fishing days

The ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area experienced it's share of inclement weather for most of the week and only a couple of days were available for god fishing. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the offshore fishing for sailfish and dorado was pretty good for a couple of days but the weather made fishing difficult and there were several port closure days due to Hurricane Eric. There was a fair bite on the roosterfish and jack crevalle on the calmer days, when the boats could get close enough to the coast line to follow the fish. Our biggest problem is the lack of anglers as we move into our summer season. The waters have been holding pretty clean and the temps are near excellent.

IZ Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps that ranged from 69 nights to 90 daytime highs. Rough stormy weather during the early week and improving with each passing day. Possibility for thunder showers almost daily but light & variable surface winds.

Sea Conditions: Near excellent, with temps at 85 inshore and rising to 86 offshore, with superb clarity at about 7-10 miles.

Best Fishing Area: Continues at about 10 miles out in front of Zihuatanejo Bay for the billfish and dorado.

Best Bait/Lures: Rigged baits working well for the billfish and dorado in the offshore waters. Live bait and pencil poppers working well for the roosterfish and jack crevales.
