The good news for the week was the increase in the yellowfin tuna in the offshore waters, as the fleet rounded out their catches for the day. Overall, it was a great fishing week in the offshore waters that reflected 1 striper, 21 sailfish, (8 released) 7 dorado, (some real quality sized fish that went to 40 lbs. and more) and 55 yellowfin tuna in the 15-35 lb. ranges. Two inshore fishing days that resulted in 5 dorado with fish that weighed in at 40-plus pounds. There was only a single port closure day due to inclement weather conditions but following that single day in the early week, the fishing just got better and better.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with some early week rain and sporadic thundershowers and temps that ranged from 73 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Surface temps holding at 84 inshore and falling off a couple of degrees for the offshore waters to 82 degrees. Surface breezes seem to continue at 10-15 mph with the direction from the east-southeast.

Best Fishing Area: The billfish are staring at about 15 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and the boats have been working outbound from there and finding the tuna at about 20 miles. The offshore dorado are scattered strikes.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits doing best for the billfish and for the bigger dorado. Tuna feathers of different colors and cedar plugs were working well for the tuna.

Bait Supply: Good supply of live bait and plenty of fresh baits for rigging.
