Extraordinarily slow for anglers this past week and probably one of the slowest months we have ever reported for Mazatlan. No particular reason, either. The fishing was OK and the weather was excellent and the sea conditions were just fine and there were lots of visitors in the area but they just weren't fishing. Go figure? We had a total of four offshore fishing days that reflected 3 stripers, (1 released) and 1 dorado. The inshore super pangas also reporting in for 4 days fishing reflected 6 dorado, 2 corvina, 12 rock perch and 42 red snappers. We are rapidly approaching the dorado season and given the stability of the water temps this year, I would think it would develop into the typical bonanza dorado season at any moment in time.

Mazatlan Climate: Sunny and warm to partly cloudy days with temps from 70 nights to 91 daytime highs. Overall, very good weather in Mazatlan.

Sea Conditions: Calm to 14 mph with breezes flowing in from the Southwest directions. Temps are near perfect with 77-78 inshore and rising to 80-82 in the offshore waters.

Best Fishing Area: The fish that were taken were scattered over a wide area but generally, out t o the south of the Marina El Cid about 17 miles and beyond.

Best Bait/Lure: The fresh rigged baits were best for the billfish & the single dorado in the offshore waters.

Bait Supply: There's an excellent supply of boath, fresh baits for rigging and live baits for casting. Live bait is $1.00 per bait.

The bigger slowdown has been the lack of anglers over the past couple of weeks and that's unfortunate as the fishing has been plenty good enough for anyone looking to catch a billfish. The overall fish counts for a total of...... Read More
