The Aries Sportfishing Fleet is reporting in with a mixed-bag catch for the past week that included 1 striper, (released) 3 sailfish, 27 dorado, (most of the fish are still in the 10 lb. ranges) and 19 yellowfin tuna, (school fish sizes, 12-25 lbs.) for the offshore waters. The inshore super pangas reported in for 3 days fished that resulted in 1 sailfish and 5 dorado. According to Marina & Fleet Manager, Geronimo Cevallos, the overall fishing is gradually improving by the day and reported the yellowfin tuna were again running with the porpoise this past week and hitting on the feathers, rapalas and cedar plugs. The dorado are still at the buoys and would be too much fun for the light tackle casters and fly fisherman with their streamers. He says it's "lots of fast action and catch and release opportunities". It's only a matter of time before the black & blue marlin arrive to feed on the dorado & tuna that are running about the area.

Mazatlan Climate: A partly cloudy week with warm and pleasant days & evenings that included temps from 75 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Temps are near perfect for the bigger marlin and they should be showing soon, especially with the food supply in the area. Temps are holding well at 86 degrees from inshore to offshore and the surface breezes are lowing mostly from the southwest from calm to 15 mph.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits best for the billfish, feathers, cedar plugs and rapalas working well on the tuna & dorado.

Best Fishing Area: Out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 16 miles and working outward from there.

Bait Supply: There continues to be a plentiful bait supply for the Aries Fleet with live bait and fresh rigging baits. Live bait is still sold at $1.00 per bait.
