We had reports of several smaller blue marlin landed in the area of the Herradura, (about 12 miles to the south of Cabo San Lucas) letting us know they are there. While there's been a few caught so far this season, this looks like the real beginning for the blues and they are certainly showing up right where they normally do. All the conditions are just right, including excellent water temps, good clarity and good live bait availability with small yellowfin, skipjack and smaller dorado. High billfish boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo", skippered by Captain Gil Marquez, reflecting 3 stripers released and 2 sailfish released for 3 days fished, all in the Herradura area. The overall fish counts for a total of 14 days fishing reflected 8 stripers released, 4 sailfish released, 2 roosterfish in the 15 lb. range. Overall, the billfish reflected an 85% catch rate for the days fished.

Cabo Climate: A few days of unpredicted rain but overall, good sea conditions on both sides of Cabo San Lucas. Temps remained a comfortable 74 nights to the daytime highs at 89.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes were calm to about 7mph on both sides of the peninsula and sea temps near perfect. On the Pacific side, from the Finger Bank and down to Jaime Bank, temps good at 81-82 degrees. From Cabo Falso to Las Frailes on the Sea of Cortez side, temps ranged from 84-85 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: The area of the Herradura was one of the better locations this past week

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best, especially for the sailfish and the stripers.

Live Bait Supply: Remained plentiful at the $3.00 per bait rate for the caballitos and the frozen ballyhoo baits.
