Captain Temo Verboonen reporting in for Zihuatanejo, provides a glowing report for the fishing this past week, with exception to Wednesday that brought a lot of rain and sloppy-choppy seas. There are many sailfish and close-in, too, that has been providing the bulk of the sailfish bite and an opportunity for an occasional blue marlin honing in on the artificials. The fish may move a bit more offshore if the waters dirty-up from the rain but it doesn't look like the fish are going to move away.

IZ Climate: Mostly cloudy days with pleasant temperatures that ranged from 75 nights to 92 daytime highs. Pouring rain on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, with squall-like conditions.

Sea Conditions: Mostly light & variable surface breezes to about 7 mph and flowing in from the southerly directions. Wednesday was raining hard and had sloppy-choppy sea conditions to go with the wet weather. Water temps very stable right now and holding at 85 inshore and gently rising to 87 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: Lots of roosterfish along Valentin River Point chasing live bait & lures and biting well. Dorado action remains good all along the coastline and they are eager to bite anything they see moving in the water. We were fly fishing for a day that resulted in 4 sailfish coming right to the boat, along with one blue marlin. We released one sailfish for the day but the action was exciting for the angler.

Best lure/Bait: Live bait and artificials, especially the poppers, were working very well for the roosterfish in along the beach. The sailfish were biting the rigged baits, as were some of the larger dorado and overall, the fishing continues to be excellent.

Bait Supply: A continuous bait supply is available from Zihuatanejo Bay, including freshly caught baits for rigging, (included with all charters) and live bait, sold at $5.00 per dozen;
