Captain Temo Verboonen reported in with excellent fishing and finally, good numbers of anglers and boats fishing. Everything started this week with many boats back out fishing and enjoying the excellent sailfish and dorado bite that began at about 15 milers out front of the Bay. The captains were reporting numerous strikes from both, sailfish and dorado with the fish unusually eager to take the rigged baits. The inshore bit was slow for roosterfish but otherwise remained excellent for jack crevalle, bonitos and Sierras, along with a few rainbow runners and groupers, with the better bite along the rocks, out front of Ixtapa.
IZ Climate: Very good weather throughout the week as we approach the full moon, reflecting air temps at 71 nights to 90 daytime highs. Humidity level at 62%. It appears the rainy season has finally finished for the year.
Sea Conditions: Calm ocean, clean water and temperatures that held stable at 83-84 degrees from inshore to offshore. Tropical surface breezes ranged from light mornings to about 9-10 mph by early afternoons, mostly with a westerly flow.
Best Fishing Area: The offshore fishing started at about the 15-mile mark, directly out front of the Bay and the action was good enough to provide fast action for most of the days. The inshore bite was mostly along the rocks in front of the Ixtapa beaches.
Best Bait/Lure: The freshly rigged baits were performing very well for the anglers in the offshore waters and while a few dorado were taken on a variety of artificial lures, the bulk of the action was on the rigged baits. The inshore action was best on smaller feathers and deep running lures, along with poppers and live bait working well for the jack crevalle.
Bait Supply: An excellent supply of bait was available, even with the approaching full moon, with plenty of fresh caught baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
