While it wasn't a bonanza fishing week from the Marina El Cid, there was sufficient catching action to keep the anglers happy and most of the crews fairly busy. Even better, we had the first reports of blue marlin this past week with the first of the year being taken aboard the "Aries III" on October 22, 2014 and followed by another taken aboard the "Aries I" on October 23, 2014. They weren't big fish as blue marlin go, but being the very first for the season, they had kept both blues. The overall fish counts for a total of 21 days fished reflected 2 blue marlin, (under 250 lbs.) 14 sailfish, (5 released) 6 dorado and 26 yellowfin tuna for the offshore fishing and 1 sailfish and 2 dorado reported for 4 inshore super panga fishing days.

Mazatlan Climate: Overall, it was an excellent fair-weather week that provided wonderful, sunny and clear sky conditions all week with temps that ranged from 71 nights to 87 daytime highs and a humidity level at 55%

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes flowing in mostly from the westerly directions that ranged from fairly calm to 12 mph. Water temps remained stable at 83-84 degrees throughout the area.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits worked very well on most of the billfish and dorado and the tuna were mostly school fish that wanted to bite the tuna feathers, cedar plugs and Rapala Magnum type lures.

Best Fishing Area: Remained out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid with the better action at 20-25 miles.

Bait Supply: Remained readily available with a good supply of fresh baits for rigging and live bait at $1.00 per bait.

We also had our first black marlin of the season show up in the count, taken aboard the "Gaviota I", that checked in under 250 lbs. The overall fish counts for...... Read More
