The bright full moon had a substantial impact on the billfish bite this past week and while many stripers were being seen over a wide area on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, the bite remained slow. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, the tailers weren't being cooperative in the area around Pozo de Cota but plenty of them all cruising downhill toward Cabo. Closer to Cabo, between the arch and Cabo Falso, the feeders were popping up late in the day and even though we did have a couple of biters, they were short biters and didn't hang on for the fight. High billfish boat for the week was the Fish Cabo, reflecting 3 stripers released and 9 dorado taken for 4 days fished. The overall fish counts for a total of 21 days fished reflected a total of 9 stipers (released) 6 wahoo, 42 Sierra, (quality fish from the Pozo de Cota area) and 39 dorado, (all in the 20-30 lb. ranges) It does appear that as the moon darkens the billfish bite should spiral upward all along the Pacific side.

Cabo Climate: It's been a mix of partly cloudy days to clear & sunny days with temps that ranged from 56 nights to 83 daytime highs and a 58% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes flowing from the west northwest and ranged from calm to about 10 mph. The Pacific side, from Golden Gate Bank, south & across the Jaime Bank and out beyond the 1000 fathom curve, all at 77-78 degrees. Cristobal to Cabo San Lucas and up to Los Frailes, cooler waters at 73-75 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: Pozo de Cota was providing good action with a mixed back catch that including a few stripers, dorado and a great bite o Sierra.

Best Lure/Bait: The billfish were best on live bait and an occasional fish on rigged dead caballitos, slow trolled from the outriggers. Dorado on the same. Sierra were biting well on smaller flashy lures, tolled farther back than usual, in the 100-150 ft. ranges.

Live Bait Supply: Remained very good right into & through the full moon phase. Still at the $3.00 per bait rate.
