Here we are on the verge of the peak fishing months of the year and the bite remains in the excellent mode for the anglers. The billfish counts are doing just fine, especially for the boats fishing the 6 & 8-hour charters and the focus has been on the surface action for the past few weeks. According to our local and knowledgeable reporter, Ms. Jessica Ortega, the bite has been very good for the anglers and if history repeats itself, the big bite is yet to come as the bulk of the white marlin and sailfish filter into the area. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 55 days fished reflected 4 white marlin, 12 sailfish, 62 dorado, 22 bonito, 1 blackfin tuna, 18 giant barracuda, 2 Spanish mackerel, 2 wahoo, 39 snapper, 2 pilot fish, 5 chack-chi, 1 grouper and 22 triggerfish, for a 13 fish mixed bag catch.
Sea Conditions: There was a single red-flag day that caused a 1-day port closure due to windy and rough conditions but then, it settled down to fishable conditions or the remainder of the week.
Best Fishing Area: What a unique fishing area this is as the boats start fishing within just a few minutes out the entrance to the Marina El Cid.
Best Bait: The always available ballyhoo continues to be the baits of choice or the crews and the anglers.
Bait Supply: The ballyhoo bait supply remains as good as it gets and the supply continues to be readily available for all of the boats on a daily basis and provided as an inclusion with the charters.
