The "GAVIOTA III", skippered by Captain Manuel Castillo, bags a quality, 195 lb. yellowfin tuna while fishing the backside fringes of the of the Jaime Bank. The fish was taken on a live caballito being slow-trolled up the walls of the bank. A single blue marlin was taken aboard the "Gaviota X" but was a smaller fish, under 250 lbs.. The striper action remained at about 40% for the boats and the lead boat for stripers for the week was "Gaviota VII", skippered by Captain Alberto Garcia, with 4 stripers released for 5 days fished. Overall fish counts for a combined total of 30 days fished reflected 1 blue marlin, 12 stripers released, 1 sailfish released, 2 wahoo, 66 dorado and 55 yellowfin tuna. All in all, it was a pretty decent fishing week for the fleets.

Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 77 nights to 95 daytime highs and mostly light NW surface breezes.

Sea Conditions: From the outside edge of the Golden Gate Bank & running northwest to southeast, was a current break where the 84 degree offshore water butted up to the 87 degree inshore waters. From Cabo San Lucas to Gordo, the temps ranged from 88 degrees and slowly rising to 90-plus degrees at the Gorda Banks.

Best Fishing Area: The Jaime Bank and the Golden Gate Bank were the focus of fishing attention for the week with more billfish at the Golden Gate and more tuna at the Jaime.

Best Bait/Lure: Billfish were best on the live bait on the drop-back when a fish came up on the lures. Live bait was also best for the larger yellowfin tuna. Wahoo were taken on darker colored lures and dorado taken on both, lures & live bait.

Live Bait Supply: Very good, mostly caballitos.
