The "Gaviota III", skippered by Captain Luis Cesena, landed two blue marlin for his anglerst this past week, with one taken at the 95 fathom spot and the other just outside of Santa Maria Bay a couple of miles. The two blues were in the 200-250 lb. range and taken on artificials. On Friday, the 13th, Captain Jorge Gil Marquez landed two sharks for his group, a smaller mako that was estimated at about 90 lbs. and a hammerhead shark that was estimated at 200 lbs. The overall combined catch report for 14 days fished reflected 2 blue marlin, 7 stripers, (6 released and 1 that weighed in at 180 lbs.) 1 wahoo, 2 yellowfin tuna and 11 dorado.

Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy to cloudy days with rain on Tuesday evening into Wednesday A.M. and temps from 74 nights to 95 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, very fishable in all directions with temps at 77-78 on the Pacific side and rising to 81 at Cabo San Lucas, then increasing to 83 by Gorda Banks. Excellent, blue water, on the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula.

Best Fishing Area: Two areas continue to dominate the fishing. The 1150 fathom spot is still producing but has slowed just a little and the closer to Cabo area, from Cabeza de Ballena, (Gray Rock) to Chileno and out 4-8 miles, continues to provide good catches.

Best Lure/Bait: Artificials best for the blue marlin and an occasional striper, too, especially in the green colors. Live bait still best for most of the stripers and dorado.

Live Bait Supply: Remains plentiful and includes both, caballitos and mullet.
