The fishing at Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo has just been so-so

According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our representative and reporter for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area, the fishing during the past couple of weeks has been just so-so, with some good and some not so good fishing days. Temo says the ocean changed after the rains but still, a few sailfish and blue marlin biting, but smaller blue marlin in the 80 kg. ranges. Last week, we had difficult inshore conditions with big waves that prevented fishing close to the shoreline and the gamefish, roosters, jacks, chulas and bonito, have all moved out from the river's mouth because of the flow of dirty water. Our best catching was with the live bait. Then, as we moved into this week, the fishing slowed up for sailfish, dorado and blue marlin. While the water remained blue and perfect from inshore to offshore, the fish were not being overly cooperative, especially for the big game fish. The inshore fishing has been pretty good for roosterfish, smaller dorados, jacks and bonitos, using live bait and spinning tackle. The ocean remains very calm and the days have been bright and sunny.

IZ Climate: Mostly sunny, warm and calm days with temps varying from 68 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: As near perfect as can be! Temps holding at 85-86 out to about 15 miles and then falling a degree or two down to 83 out to the 1000 fathom curve. Very clean and very blue water throughout the area.

Best Fishing Area: The billfish are scattered in the offshore water and there is no concentration at this time. The inshore waters have been producing very well for some real quality roosterfish, jack crevalle, chulas, bonito and more.

Best Bait/Lure: The billfish best on the rigged baits and the inshore fishing best on live bait and spinning tackle. The inshore fish much more eager on the live bait.

Bait Supply: The bait supply continues to be readily available for the anglers with a great supply of fresh rigging baits and live caballitos.
