Plenty of Billfish in Cabo, the problem is getting them to bite, Dorado are biting big time!

I still have hope for a sustained striped marlin bite from Cabo San Lucas, albeit, it continues to be very slow through this past week. I believe the change may come from the decline in the water temp throughout the area and now holding right at the 79-80 degree mark, which is nearing perfect temps for stripers and for the schools of greenback mackerel. There is no lack of seeing the billfish but there is a huge problem in getting them to bite. The overall fish counts for a total of 23 days fished reflected only 3 stripers for their efforts and 2 of them were taken on the same day aboard the "Gaviota IX", skippered by Captain Jorge Ruiz. Included in the counts were the 3 stripers released, 1 wahoo and the fish of the week, 116 dorado, (motly in the 10-20 lb. ranges).

Cabo Climate: Sunny & clear skies with pleasant days and cool nights and mornings. Temps ranging from 60 nights to 84 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Good on both sides of the peninsula with temps holding stable at 79-80 degrees. If this temp situation holds for awhile, the schools of mackerel should begin to arrive on the banks and the billfish will follow.

Best Fishing Area: Out in front of Cabo San Lucas in the area called "Herradura", was the best area for the stripers but the dorado were found scattered along the Pacific side in different areas, including "El Faro" to "Pozo de Cota".

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best for the few stripers caught and continue to be finicky eaters. Seeing lots of fish but not wanting to bite. Dorado taking both, artificials and live bait.

Live Bait Supply: Much improved since the full moon phase. Mostly caballitos with a few mackerel in the mix.
