Captain Temo Verboonen reported in for the past week's fishing and said, "Absolutely incredible fishing for sailfish and dorado and even better, it's very close to the entrance of the Bay. The fish are biting with a determination and the skippers are reporting double digit strikes for a single fishing day with a mix of billfish and dorado. Lots of big dorado that have been providing excellent action with fish that are all in the 20-plus pound average or more. A few fish are pushing into the 40 lb. mark. The inshore fishing that stretches right up to the Bay entrance and inside, is producing fast action for Sierra, big jack crevalle, lots of bonito and even a few roosterfish. All in all, the fishing right now is exceptional and the anglers will be having a fun fishing Christmas".
IZ Climate: Partly cloudy but warm and toasty days that reflected temps from 70 nights to 87 daytime highs and light & variable surface breezes.
Sea Conditions: Sea conditions are very good throughout the area with temps stable at 84 inshore to 85 offshore, all with very good clarity. Mostly calm days with very little swell.
Best Fishing Area: Almost within casting distance of the entrance to the Bay, maybe a couple miles offshore for the beginning and the bite last all day long but is best in the early hours.
Best Bait/Lure: Live bait working well for the inshore fishing for the bigger jacks and roosterfish. Small feathers and hootchies as well as bait strips working well for the Sierra and bonitos. Rigged baits are very productive for the billfish and for the dorado and live bait just adds to the excitement. Seems like whatever goes in the water right now is getting bit. The fish are not at all shy.
Bait Supply: Bait Supply remains excellent for this area with fresh mullet baits for rigging and plenty of live baits, (caballitos) for casting to the fish. Live bait is $5.00 per dozen in this area.
