The prelude to the Christmas Season provided another wide spectrum mixed-bag catch that included some 14 species of fish, including 6 dorado, 6 king mackerel, 34 bonito, 12 giant Atlantic barracuda, 11 Spanish mackerel, 1 rainbow runner, 1 wahoo, 14 snappers, (a mix of cubera, dog tooth and yellowtail snappers) 5 grouper, 36 banana fish, 11 trigger fish, 12 strawberry fish, 2 amberjack and 12 soap fish. According to Ms. Nayade Gamboa, our reporter for the Puerto Morelos area, the Christmas Season coincides with the cooling trend in their area, usually when the water temps decline a couple of degrees and the catching tends to slow down a little. However, so far this December, there has yet to be any significant changes with the conditions and the fishing/catching may just remain stable right into the New Year, which would be "our best scenario". We'll just have to wait and see how the year closes out but as of right now, it looks pretty good for the anglers.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with cooler mornings & evenings and nice, warm and pleasant days. Temps are ranging from 59 nights to 86 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly light & variable surface breezes from the easterly directions and calm seas that reflected temps holding stable at 80 degrees.

Best Bait/Lures: The freshly caught ballyhoo continues to be the bait of choice for this area and is provided to the sportfishers every morning, allowing for rigging to the type of fishing they will be doing for that day.

Bait Supply: As odd as it appears to be, nothing seems to hamper the freshly caught bait supply for this area. Full moon, tides, water temps, nothing seems to make any significant changes with the daily ballyhoo bait supply.
