The Billfish bite is within a few miles of Cabo Harbor

The billfish action continues to be off kilter for this time of year, albeit, nearly 75% of the boats did land a striper this past week, with most of the marlin taken within a few miles of the Cabo Harbor. Cabo Falso continued to be one of the hot spots but there were some scattered strikes all along the Pacific side from Cabo Falso to Pozo de Cota and beyond. The skippers are still reporting multiple billfish sightings but getting them to bite has been the ultimate secret and if anyone knows what it is, they aren't sharing the info. Definitely a frustrating situation for anglers and crews.

I hate to say it, but I'm starting to lose my optimism for the "big striper bite" that is very normal for this time of year, especially since the Pacific green mackerel schools have still not shown up in any sustained quantities at the banks.

Cabo Climate: A couple of rainy, drizzly days early in the week that changed from heavy overcast/cloudy conditions to partly cloudy conditions with cool evenings and mornings and pleasantly warm days with temps that ranges from 57 nights to 80 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Cooler waters moving in from both sides of the peninsula and starting at 76 degrees at the Finger Bank to Cristobal, rising to 78 degrees from Cristobal to Cabo and out to the 95 Fathom Spot and then, slowly declining to 76 degrees at the Gorda Banks and north from there. Clarity remains pretty good throughout the area and on both sides of the peninsula. The sea surface conditions have been cooperative on both sides with more swell on the Pacific side, rolling in from the northwest.

Best Fishing Area: Cabo Falso continues to be the best fishing area for the stripers.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait is a must and even with the live bait, the billfish are being overly stubborn to bite.

Live Bait Supply: Remains very good with mostly caballitos and an occasional mackerel.
