The Striped Marlin are still active but you have to be patient in Cabo

According to Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of Fish Cabo boats, the stripers are still right at the Cabo Falso Drop-Off, but remain very finicky biters for the most part. He says it's a "patience game" to sit and drift fish for the marlin, using live bait dropped down to different depths and waiting for the bite. He added, you can make all the live mackerel you want right at the edge while you're drift fishing for the billfish and occasionally, you can even spot a sleeper or tailer wondering by that is totally disinterested in biting. It's a very difficult way to fish but the most productive at this time. The high boat for the week was the "Tuna Time", reporting in with a total of 7 stripers released and limits of dorado for a total of 5 days fished and was followed by the Fish Cabo, reflecting 4 stripers, 24 dorado, 2 wahoo and limits of Sierra for 6 days fished. The overall fish counts for a total of 43 days fished reflected 21 stripers, (18 released) 3 wahoo, 4 roosterfish. 108 Sierra and 159 dorado for their efforts. Most of the dorado are in the 15-25 lb. ranges with a few in the 30-40 lb. range in the mix.

Cabo Climate: Cool to cold mornings and evenings with nice, comfortable fishing days and temps that varied from 53 nights to 75 daytime highs. A couple of days of rain during the early week. Lots of cloud cover with the jet stream passing over the area. Sea Conditions: Water temps remain pretty good for this time of yea and there 9is little difference between the Pacific side and the Sea of Cortez side, with temps at 77-79 degrees throughout the 2-sided area. Slightly warmer waters are out to the south of Cabo at about 20 miles, just outside the 1000 fathom curve. Good clarity. Best Fishing Area: Remains on the Pacific side with the Cabo Falso Drop-Off being the hot spot for billfish. Dorado, wahoo and Sierra were between Los Arcos and Migrino.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was a must for the billfish and best for the dorado, too.

Live Bait Supply: Excellent for both, caballitos and mackerel and easy to replenish the supply with mackerel at the fishing grounds.
