The port at Mazatlan was closed for two days that seemed to take it's toll on the fishing results for the past week. Once the wind and rough seas had subsided, the boats had to again relocate the fish and the water temps had taken a bit of a downward turn. The fishing report for the Aries Sportfishing Fleet reflected a total of 20 days fished that resulted in 9 stripers, (1 released) for the offshore waters. The inshore super pangas, reporting in for a total of 6 days fished, reflected 1 striper, 11 red snapper and 24 white snapper for their efforts and the skippers noted that the water temps had slid a couple of degrees during the early part of the week.

Mazatlan Climate: Very cold mornings and evenings with temps ranging from 44 nights to 79 daytime highs. (Dress warmly for the mornings and evenings). Mostly cloudy days with winds to 20 mph from the northwesterly directions.

Sea Conditions: Water temps at 69 inshore and rising to 72-73 offshore at about 16 miles and beyond. Surface conditions have been on the bumpy side and the surface breezes up to 20 mph.

Best Fishing Area: The boats have been looking far & wide but there was no real concentration of billfish and most of the boats fished out to the south & southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at bout 18 miles and fishing outbound from there.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged mullet were working well for the stripers.

Bait Supply: Bait supply remains very good for both, fresh rigging mullet baits and for live baits. Live bait from Mazatlan is $1.00 per bait and paid direct to the bait vendor at time of receipt.
