According to Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of the Fish Cabo boats who reported that the tuna are still on the Pacific side, from the Jaime Bank to Cabo Falso. The billfish are on the Sea of Cortez side now, from Palmilla to Gorda Banks and above the banks, along the drop-off ridge. High billfish boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo", reporting 5 striper releases for 3 days fished, along with 33 yellowfin tuna. The overall combined fish counts for the week for 31 days fished reflected 14 stripers, (133 released) 18 dorado, 4 Sierra and 186 yellowfin tuna. The tuna have been in the 15-25 lb. ranges this past week and are still mixed with the porpoise scchools.
Cabo Climate: Much improved weather this past week that left the area with plenty of sunshine and warm days. Temps ranged from 57 nights to 89 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: The northerly winds subsided and the fishing from either side was pretty much in favorable conditions with surface breezes from light to 20 mph. Sea temps were very unusual with 69-70 from the Golden Gate Bank, rising to 71 at the Jaime Bank, both on the Pacific side. A huge wall of warmer water pushed down from the Sea of Cortez side and formed a substantial temperature break running out to the southeast from Palmilla Point for more than 50 miles. Temps on the northerly side at 72-73 degrees that walled up to cooler water on the southerly side at 64-67 degrees.
Best Fishing Area: Nearly all of the billfish are coming from the warmer waters on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo, from Palmilla Point and above, past the Gorda Banks. The yellowfin tuna have been holding in the Pacific side area, from the Jaime Bank to Cabo Falso area, and finding the schools of porpoise.
Best Lure/Bait: The billfish best on the live bait and the tuna best on the cedar plugs and the tuna feathers.
Bait Supply: It's been a good week for live bait with caballitos for the most part and still a few mackerel in the mix.
