During the early part of the week, the fishing had been good for most of the boats for both, inshore and off shore fishing. The roosterfish catches inshore were nothing short of phenomenal and the quality of the fish was amazing. However, by Thursday, the cooler waters from the Pacific side had rolled around the corner and the water temps began to fall and the fish seemed to evaporate from the area. The marlin bite that was keeping anglers happy at the 1150 Fathom Spot completely fell apart and the area turned into a desert. The inshore roosterfishing that had been so good had disappeared and the fish were gone. The difference was an overnight occurrence and the boats will be fanning out and traveling farther into the Sea of Cortez to locate the new fish areas. For now, it would appear that the billfish have moved from Destiladers to Las Frailes and above and the roosterfish have probably gone back up to the Pt. Arenas area. We'll see how things develop over the next week and hope for the best. The overall fish counts for the week reflected a combined total of 16 off shore fishing days and 5 inshore fishing days that produced 17 stripers, 10 yellowfin tuna, 4 skipjack tuna, 1 wahoo for the offshore fleet. Gaviota IX, skippered by Captain Christian Lopez, was high billfish boat with 5 stripers for 3 days fished, mostly in the 1150 Fathom Area. The inshore fishing for the 5 days reflected 1 yellowtail, (35 pounder) 5 jack crevalle and 33 roosterfish. The Fish Cabo reported releasing 29 roosterfish, (25 released) over 3 days with all fish in the 25-35 lb. ranges. The "Fish Cabo" owner, Roberto Marquez, said most of the fish were close by in the Cabo Falso area but he had reports of some monster roosterfish being caught in the San Jose area that had weighed in in the 80-90 lb. ranges.

Cabo Climate: A few partly cloudy days but mostly sunshine and hot conditions with temps that ranged from 68 nights to 97 daytime highs. Surface breezes flowing in from the SW at 10-15 mph.

Sea Conditions: The cooler Pacific current has pushed down the coast and around the corner at Cabo San Lucas with cool temps at 60-66 degrees, changing to 72 at Chileno and rising to 75 by Gorda Banks. Warmest waters are above the Gorda about 10 miles or so at 76-78 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: The offshore fishing was best in the area surrounding the 1150 Fathom Spot and the inshore roosterfish in the Cabo Falso area.

Best Lure/Bait: Liver bait was best for both areas, inshore and offshore.

Live Bait Supply: The live bait supply remains very good for caballitos and there has been no lack of good bait at the $3.00 per bait rate.
