The fishing took a serious downturn this past week for the Mazatlan sportfishing fleets and for no apparent reason. The water temps were good both inshore and offshore and the water clarity for the offshore waters remained good, too. The sea surface conditions remained good for the latter part of the week and the surface breezes were in the 10-15 mph ranges, all which are acceptable. Nevertheless, the fishing slid downhill to the lowest point in more than a year and we have no explanation for it other than, it's fishing. There are the really good days, the OK days, the tougher days and then you run into last week where the fish seemed to have evaporated. The overall fish counts for a total of 11 days fished offshore reflected 2 sailfish and 9 dorado. The inshore super pangas fished only 2 days and reflected 1 dorado and 3 jack crevalle.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and intermittent sunny periods with temps that ranged from 62 nights to 86 daytime highs and 10-15 mph surface breezes from the Southwest.

Sea Conditions: Overall, there were a few rough and not so kind water weather days that later became favorable for both inshore and offshore. Inshore temps held at 80 degrees and the offshore temps held at 81-82 degrees and with good offshore clarity.

Best Fishing Area: There was no specific area that produced a good catch. The sailfish were few and far between as were the dorado and there was no concentration to be found anywhere.

Best Bait/Lure: The two sailfish were caught on rigged trolling baits as were most of the dorado.

Bait Supply: Remained very good with ample live bait and freshly caught baits for rigging.
