The sailfish bite continues to be above the 1 fish per boat average and the full moon phase has not stymied the bite for the fleet. What we are seeing now is a better mix of fish that includes dorado and yellowfin tuna, along with sailfish opportunities. The offshore report for 13 days fished reflected 16 sailfish, (5 releases) 21 dorado, (mostly quality sized fish in the 20-plus lb. ranges) and 14 yellowfin tuna, (school fish sizes to about 25 lbs.). The inshore super pangas, reporting in for 4 days fished, reflected 17 dorado and 3 yellowfin tuna for their efforts. Overall, it has been a good fishing week in the offshore waters and with the showing of more dorado and the yellowfin tuna, the black & blue marlin will be soon to follow.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with scattered thunderstorms, in the evenings and nights mostly, and temps that varied from 75 nights to 92 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Great water temps that held stable from inshore to offshore at about 85 degrees. Slight change at about 20 miles offshore to 82 degrees. Surface breezes rolling in from the SW at 10-15 mph and moderate to light swell condition.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 15-18 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and outbound from there. Good water clarity and good feed biomass.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits working well on the billfish and dorado, albeit, a few dorado taking the artificials. Tuna mostly on the feathers and cedar plugs.
Bait Supply: Remains good and so far, has been unaffected by the full moon condition. Live bait and fresh caught baits for rigging are readily available.

The full moon has not affected the marlin bite at all. There is wide spread action from Cabo Falso to Palmia Ridge that extends out to the 95 Fathom Spot and the 1150 Fathom Spot and the billfish have not been timid biters this past week. Many sportfishers returned with multiple billfish releases. I think now, as we start to see a few yellowfin tuna show up in the counts and a few dorado too, that the...... Read More
