According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the only thing lacking right now is the numbers of anglers to go fishing. The fishing for sailfish is very good and the bite starts at about 7 miles from the entrance to Zihuatanejo Bay. Lots of strikes and opportunities everyday. The dorado bite slowed a little but the ones that are being caught are quality fish, usually above the 25 lb. mark. The inshore fishing remains very good for roosterfish and some big jack crevalle. The Valentin river is running and flowing murky water to the ocean and the game fish are moving outside the river flow area. We have been having excellent fishing conditions for the most part with calm waters and light and variable surface breezes, just enough to cool one down a bit.
IZ Climate: Some scattered rains and thunderstorms, mostly in the evening/nights and temps that varied between 71 nights to 94 daytime highs and full moon conditions, along with high humidity levels.
Sea Conditions: Near excellent and better. Perfect water clarity at about 7 miles outside the Bay and temps that are stable at about 87 degrees throughout the area. Surface winds are light & variable, maybe 5-10 mph and flowing mostly from the southwesterly directions.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 7 miles outside the Bay for the billfish and dorado and along the Valentin beaches in the cleaner water areas not affected by the river run-off.
Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits continue to dominate the billfish and the dorado seem to want them, too. The inshore fish remains good with the poppers and live bait and both working well.
Bait Supply: Continues to be plentiful and unaffected by the full moon condition.
