The billfish average remained at about 1 billfish per boat fishing day for the 20 days of offshore fishing and included 19 sailfish, (4 released) 4 dorado and 5 skipjack tuna. The inshore super pangas, reporting in for a total of 5 days fished reflected 1 sailfish, 3 dorado, 12 corvina and 39 jack crevalle. The inshore action has picked up considerably over the past 7-10 days and is expected to continue with the high jack crevalle counts and corvina action. The offshore action for billfish remains good and as always, a couple of the boats had 2-3 billfish for single fishing days. High boat for the week was the "Aries III" with 5 sailfish for 2 days fished.
Mazatlan Climate: Warm days & nights with temps that ranged from 75 to 94 and mostly cloudy days. Chance for thundershowers remained for the week but mostly in the mountains. Surface breezes at 10-15 mph and coming from varied directions.
Sea Conditions: Warm water temps and holding at 88-89 degrees from inshore to offshore. Good clarity from about 14 miles offshore and beyond. Some afternoon popcorn but not much swell action. Easy fishing in any direction.
Best Fishing Area: No special area was reported. The boats were scattered over wide areas for most of the week that ranged from west to southwest of the Marina El Cid. Billfish found starting at about 15-16 miles or so.
Best Bait/Lure: The rigged baits remained the "hot ticket" item for the billfish.
Bait Supply: Remained very good for both, live bait and fresh rigging baits. live baits remain $1.00 each.
