It was another family fun fishing week from Puerto Morelos, aboard the Marina El Cid's Fishing Fleet. This is one of the few areas along the Quintana Roo Caribbean coast that immediately drops off to deep water within a couple hundred meters of the marina's entrance and allows for a rapid start to the fishing day. The variety of fish caught in this are truly adds to the excitement of the area. This week, the boats fished a total of 33 days and reported in with a 15 fish mixed bag catch that included 1 sailfish, 4 dorado, 8 jack crevalle, 1 rainbow runner, 1 wahoo, 9 bonito, 3 Spanish mackerel, 2 king mackerel and 53 giant barracuda for the surface fish action and 8 Snappers, 68 banana fish, 53 triggerfish, 8 soapfish 27 strawberry fish and 37 grouper for the bottom fish action.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent sunshine and temps that ranged from 73 nights to 90 daytime highs and mostly light & variable surface breezes from the easterly directions at 5-10 mph.
Sea Conditions: Excellent, with stable temps throughout the area, holding at 85-86 degrees with mostly a light surface ripple and good clarity.
Best Bait: The daily fresh catches of ballyhoo continue to be the bait of choice for all of the crews in this area and all of the game fish and bottom fish are usually pretty eager for the variations they use with the baits in this area.
