Overall, it was a good fishing week and the captains were reporting many strikes on the blue marlin but most were "short bites" and didn't stick too well. The billfish that were taken were in the 280 lb. ranges for the most part. Sailfish weren't as active as in the past week but still good enough to allow for some sailfish action. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, "We had a single sailfish and a couple of nice sized dorado for our day with Mr. Maldonado but the sailfish got off in the fight". The water is a perfect blue color and remains calm. The dorado showing up right now are bigger fish. Lots of bait everywhere. The inshore fishing slowed for the roosterfish but the big sierras moved in and bolstered the bite. All in all, it remained a good fishing week from Zihuatanejo, as the summer fishing season continued......
IZ Climate: Mostly warm and cloudy days and evenings with temps that ranged from 74 nights to 93 daytime highs, (heat index to 105 & a little humid). Scattered thundershowers most anytime but primarily in the mountains.
Sea Conditions: Overall, remains very good. Temps are stable at 87 inshore and 88 offshore and mostly calm waters. Light & variable surface breezes for most of the week and changing to 10-15 mph.
Best Fishing Area: Ranged from 6-11 miles out in front of the Bay.
Best Bait/Lure: Sailfish were biting best on the rigged baits, blue marlin on both, rigged baits and artificials. Dorado also biting on both.
Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging. Live bait remains at $5.00 per dozen.
