The offshore fishing from the Marina El Cid has taken a short siesta for the anglers and while there is still some billfish action, it did slow up this past week from the prior several weeks of reports. There's no apparent reason for the slowdown as the water temps, clarity and other elements that tend to have an effect have not made any specific changes that would allow one to point at a direct reason. Perhaps it's just the variables of fishing in general in that it can't be really good fishing every single day or they would change the name to catching and drop the word fishing. The overall fish report for a total of 30 offshore fishing days reflected 1 blue marlin, (under 300 lbs.) 5 striped marlin, 12 sailfish, (9 released) 6 dorado and 10 yellowfin tuna and the inshore super panga fishing for 6 days reflected 1 striped marlin, 8 red snapper, 4 triggerfish and 20 rock perch.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent sunshine periods and temps that ranged from 57 nights to 83 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Stable sea temps at 80-81 degrees, very good clarity at about 10 miles or so and light & variable surface breezes for the most part and nothing that exceeded 13 mph during the week, mostly from the westerly directions.

Best Fishing Area: There was no specific area reported that had better fishing than another, albeit, most of the boats had started out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and ventured in various directions from there.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits were working best on the billfish and included freshly rigged Lisas, (mullet) and ballyhoo.

Bait Supply: Remained very good through the week and live bait and fresh baits for rigging were continuously available.
