High billfish boat for the week was the "Gaviota IX", reflecting 8 stripers released for 5 days fished and closely followed by the "Tuna Time", releasing 5 stripers for 3 days fished. There is still no report of the mackerel schools showing up at the banks and drop-off ledges but we still anticipate their arrival on location and only time will tell. The overall combined fish report for the past week reflected 39 days were fished that produced 41 stripers, (39 releases) 3 wahoo, 1 yellowfin tuna and 79 dorado, with 99% of the fish taken on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas. While the fishing remained very good during the full moon phase, I would anticipate the catches to bounce back up as the first quarter moves by. If the schools of Pacific greenback mackerel arrive on location, anglers can expect the bite to continue right through Christmas and perhaps the New Year.

Cabo Climate: Cooling down in Cabo San Lucas, with temps that ranged from 59 nights to 82 daytime highs. Probably in need of a light jacket in the mornings aboard the boats. It was a mostly sunny early week that changed to partly cloudy days toward the end of the week.

Sea Conditions: The Pacific side is slowly changing and temps are in the 77-78 degree mode from the Finger Bank to Cabo Falso, then increasing to 79-80. Around the tip of Baja and into the Sea of Cortez, temps increase to 82 degrees and extend up past Las Frailes area. Surface winds were mostly from the westerly directions and ranged from 8-14 mph. and fishable in all locations.

Best Fishing Area: Migrino, on the Pacific side, inshore from the Golden Gate Bank and on the Jaime Bank provided great striper action for the anglers, along with good dorado catches, too.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best for the billfish and worked well on the dorado, too. A few fish taken on lures and the rigged ballyhoo baits but live bait was best overall.

Bait Supply: Remains excellent right through the full moon. Plenty of caballitos at $3.00 per bait. Ballyhoo continue to be available for rigging baits, also at $3.00 per bait.
