Captain Temo Verboonen reports in with another great fishing week for the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo region, reporting that the "big bite" for the offshore billfish action begins at about a mile outside the Bay, with multiple sailfish counts everyday and even a few blue marlin being taken in those close in waters. Seems like the farther out the less action right now and not having to refuel everyday has been a welcome benefit that tends to add lots of fishing time to the days. The dorado seem to have moved from the area around the rocks and the inshore fishing has slowed, too. Temo says they are not seeing the schools of bonito and jacks and even the roosterfish have been difficult to find during this past week.

IZ Climate: Some typical summer rains through the week with hot & humid temps that ranged from 77 nights to 95 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, it has been a good weather week for fishing and the water temps remain stable at 89-90 degrees from the coast to the offshore waters. Surface breezes, mostly from the westerly directions, have been from calm to about 9 mph and the good clarity starts just a mile outside the Bay.

Best Fishing Area: The action begins just a mile outside the Bay, (almost casting distance from the hotels) for the sailfish and a few blue marlin. The clarity is deep blue and very clean. Seems like getting more than a few miles offshore is a mistake as the billfish bite is close.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits working well for the sailfish and even for a few blue marlin, too.

Bait Supply: Excellent bait supply for fresh rigging baits provided with the charters and live bait at the rate of $5.00 per dozen.
