High billfish boats for the week were the Fish Cabo, reflecting 7 stripers for 3 days fished, followed by the Tuna Time, 5 stripers for 3 days fished and the Gaviota IX, reflecting 5 stripers for 5 days fished. The Gaviota VIII produced the only blue marlin this week and the fish was under 300 lbs. The overall fish counts for a total of 25 days reflected 1 blue marlin, 23 stripers, 20 released) 2 wahoo, 16 yellowfin tuna and 40 dorado. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, the billfish were scattered about in different areas that ranged from Pozo de Cota on the Pacific side to Palmilla Point on the Sea of Cortez side.


Cabo Climate: Incredible great weather with temps that ranged from 62 nights to 91 daytime highs and a 57% humidity level. It was a superb week of mostly sunny, warm and clear days.

Sea Conditions: Light surface breezes flowing in mostly from the southerly directions and ranging from calm to 9 mph. Pacific side reflected water temps at 77-78, ranging from the Finger Bank down to the Jaime Bank and then, rising to 79-80 from the Jaime Bank going into Cabo and up to the southern edge of the Gorda Banks. Warmest waters at 81.5 degrees out to the south of Cabo at the 1000 fathom curve, the 95 Fathom Spot and the 1150 Fathom Spot.

Best Fishing Area: The blue marlin came from Palmilla area and the stripers were scattered along the Pacific side, down to Cabo Falso and around to the 1150 fathom spot.

Best Bait/Lures: The artificials were working good for the dorado and an occasional marlin. Live bait was best fo fish that had been sighted & baited.

Live Bait Supply: An excellent supply of live bait, mostly caballitos, at the $3.00 per bait rate.
