THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND THE FISH CABO FLEET

Dorado action is still the mainstay of the catching for the Cabo sportfishers and continued again for this week with most of the boats averaging 2-4 dorado per day. However, it was another very slow week for billfish and anglers, too. The chances for a billfish fell to about a 20% ratio for the week and at a time of year when it's normally wide-open on the stripers. While I keep hearing reports of plenty of billfish just below Magdalena Bay, they have yet to show up in the normal Pacific banks areas surrounding Cabo San Lucas. Overall fish counts for a total of only 19 combined fishing days reflected 4 stripers released, 2 wahoo, 22 yellowfin tuna and 63 dorado.

Cabo Climate: Something a little different with light rain today and likely tomorrow, but no wind and back to sunny for the weekend, temps from 54 nights to 78 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, very good and good clarity. Temps from the Finger Bank, down to the Golden Gate, across the Jaime and around to Gorda Banks all at 74-75 degrees. There is a 2 degree upside temp break to the southwest of Cabo, climbing to 76-77.

Best Fishing Area: Remains on the Pacific side, from Cabeza Ballena, (Gray Rock) to Jaime Bank, but no real concentration in any area. Tuna coming from the Jaime Bank areas.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait on the drop-back for the few billffish and almost sure-fire for a 2nd dorado or more. Feathers for the tuna, running with the porpoise.

Live Bait Supply: Plenty of bait, mostly caballitos this past week.
