While a little bit slower fishing this past week, according to
Captain Temo Verboonen, the sailfish and dorado are still plenty
active and still biting, especially in the area at the 14 miles
mark. Temo says the water clears at 18 miles, but the best bite was at 14 miles in the clean greenish tinted water. They also have good reports for yellowfin tuna at the 30 miles mark with a fair showing of blue marlin in the 200--plus lb. ranges. He reports excellent inshore action for big jack cravelle, (20 lb. averages) that chase the poppers and are eager to bite, along with good Sierra and bonito action, too. He says the roosterfish are absent from the area right now, probably due to the cooler, green inshore water.
IZ Climate: Mostly sunny early in the week and partly cloudy at the end of the week with temps from 70 nights to 91 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Calm waters with light surface breezes and small swells. Green water that gradually clears from about 10 miles and getting clear at 18 miles or so, with inshore temps at 80 and offshore temps at 85.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 14 miles and still in the greenish tinted, but clean water, for sailfish and dorado. Tuna and marlin at 30 miles.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits for the sailfish working well and same for the dorado. Poppers working very well for the jack cravelle.
Bait Supply: Good supply currently available.
