The sailfish action from the Marina El Cid in Mazatlan, provided a very successful fishing week for most of the anglers as the fish moved closer to the port and even allowed the super pangas to get in on the bite. High boat for the week was the Aries IX, skippered by Captain Gilberto Quintero, reporting the only blue marlin, along with two sailfish for his single fishing day this past week. The overall fish counts for a total of 15 offshore fishing days resulted in 1 blue marlin, (a 275-pounder) and 20 sailfish, (8 released) 1 mako shark and 5 dorado. The super pangas got into the sailfish action and reported 4 sailfish, (1 released) 3 dorado, 10 perch, 1 red snapper and 3 triggerfish for their 6 fishing days. Overall, it was an excellent fishing week for the fleet and the anglers as the late fall fishing amps up the action.
Mazatlan Climate: Cooler evenings and very pleasant days have been the norm, albeit, partly cloudy days with light & variable surface breezes throughout the area. Temps were stable at 63 nights to 87 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Mostly calm waters for the past week with small swell conditions and just enough breeze to create a surface ripple on the water. Temps remained very stable at 85 degrees all through out the area.
Best Fishing Area: The better offshore fishing started at about 12 miles or so and outbound from there.
Best Lure/Bait: The rigged trolling baits were the hot ticket of most of the boats and anglers.
Bait Supply: Excellent bait supply for both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging.
