This past week was an exceptionally good fishing week for the Aries Fleet sportfishers, especially for the billfish. Captain Gilberto Quintero was the leader of the fleet and skippering the "Aries IX" groups to a total of 1 blue marlin and 6 sailfish for their three fishing days. The overall averages for the offshore sportfishing was near 2 billfish per boat day. Captain David Cabanillas, skipper of the Aries IV, produced 1 blue marlin, 3 sailfish and 3 dorado for his two days of fishing in the offshore waters. The overall fish counts for a total of 11 days reflected 2 blue marlin, (smaller fish in the 250 lb. range) 13 sailfish, (5 released) and 7 dorado. The inshore super pangas reporting in for 6 days fished reflected 11 roosterfish, (9 released) 7 barracuda, 4 bonito 13 red snapper and 25 perch. This fall's fishing from the Marina El Cid in Mazatlan, with The Aries Sportfishing Fleet, has developed into terrific offshore billfish action for the anglers and is providing several opportunities each fishing day for blue marlin and sailfish.
