The Dorado bite was phenomenal at Cabo this week

While the skippers are still seeing a fair number of stripers, the bite has diminished this past week and for no apparent reason. Historically, November is one of the very best striper catching months of the year and about the only viable reason may be the water temps are still too warm? The Pacific greenback mackerel are still showing at the Golden Gate and Cabo Falso Drop-Off, but not yet in the huge schools that normally frequent the areas. While I'm not sure, this may reflect a later bite for the stripers as the water temps fall a few degrees and the surge of mackerel move in? Only time will tell. Nevertheless, the dorado bite remains phenomenal for nearly all of the anglers and limit style fishing has been the norm for the past few weeks and this past week was no different. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 46 days fished reflected 6 stripers released, 1 yellowfin tuna and 272 dorado, (most of the dorado were in the 20-24 lb. ranges). The Fish Cabo reported many dorado releases for their boas. High boat for the week was the "Gaviota XI", skippered by Captain Julian Ruiz, reporting 2 stripers released and 26 dorado for their 6 days fished.
Cabo Climate: Generally, cooler evenings and warm, comfortable days with intermittent sunny periods. Temps ranged from 62 nights to 89 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Pacific side holding stable at 81-83 from Above the Golden Gate Bank and down to Cabo and then warming to 84-85 to the Gorda Banks and out to the thousand fathom curve and the entire area offering excellent clarity and light and variable surface breeze conditions in the 5-10 mph ranges.
Best Fishing Area: The Pacific side remains the frequented area by 99% of the boats and the fish of the week has been the dorado. Most to the dorado this week were in the 20-24 lb. ranges and a few larger fish taken in the mix. The better dorado fishing has been within a couple miles of the shoreline. The marlin catches were made mostly close to Cabo and near Cabo Falso drop-off but two fish were taken in the Pozo de Coto area about 20 miles up the coastline.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait & artificials working best for the bulk of the fish, especially for the dorado.
Live Bait Supply: Remains very good for both, caballitos and sardines.
