Captain Temo Verboonen reported another week of excellent fishing from Zihuatanejo, with the big bite just 5 miles from the entrance to the Bay. The sailfish and dorado bite continues to be in high gear for the anglers and the skippers are reporting 7 or more strikes per fishing day. There is a lot of action everyday and finally, there are many boats fishing again, on a daily basis. We are finally in our high season mode and absent the longliners in the area, the fish are able to filter through to our fishing waters and offer our sportfishing anglers top-notch action. The big jack crevalle have moved offshore in the same areas as the dorado and sailfish and are competing for the available bait and running right with the porpoise. The inshore fishing/action has slowed up considerably and with exception to a couple of fishing days, moving farther offshore has been the better avenue for the action in this area.
IZ Climate: Warm comfortable evenings and terrific, warm days, providing lots of sunshine and a few passing clouds and temps ranging from 73 nights to 91 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Mostly light & variable surface breezes with small swell conditions and near flat-calm surfaces. Temps from 85 inshore to 86 offshore and providing deep blue water clarity
Best Fishing Area: Right at the 5-mile mark for the billfish and dorado and spread over a wide area that is supporting many boats fishing.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits are setting the pace for the action and both, sailfish and dorado have been very eager to bite. Live baits working best for the big jacks but the dorado and sailfish are also interested.
Bait Supply: Remains excellent for this area with fresh caught baits for rigging and a good live bait supply from the super panga bait catchers.
