Another good fishing week from Puerto Morelos that included another off-season sailfish, taken by angler Eric Andress and his sons, from Hettinger, ND, fishing aboard the "Double Trouble" and within a few miles from the entrance to the Marina. The overall fishing report for a total of 31 days fished reflected 1 sailfish, 1 dorado, 6 blackfin tuna, 57 bonito, 17 grouper, 25 snappers, 40 soapfish, 20 triggerfish, 12 Spanish mackerel, 5 king mackerel, 7 amberjack, 5 giant Atlantic barracuda, 9 banana fish, 2 porgy fish, 2 wahoo and 3 strawberry fish.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and temps that ranged from 70 nights to 88 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding well at 79-80 degrees throughout the area. Surface winds from the easterly directions have been in the 5-20 mph ranges for the most part with very moderate swell conditions and wind chop.
Best Fishing Area: The sailfish was caught just a couple miles from the Marina El Cid. The deep water begins just outside the entrance to Marina El Cid, falling off to 600 feet deep.
Best Bait/Lure: The bait of choice continues to be the freshly caught ballyhoo baits that are used both skirted and unskirted for surface fish and also used in the downriggers the same way and used in cut bait and filleted slabs for bottom fishing.
