Fishing remains good on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo and while many billfish are currently being spotted in the close area near Cabeza de Ballena, (aka Gray Rock) it was very difficult to get a bite in that neighborhood. The area on line between the 95 Fathom Spot and the 1150 Fathom Spot remained the best bite area for the week. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 23 days fished reflected 17 stripers, (15 released) 15 dorado and 20 skipjack, (all of the skipjack were taken on the inshore waters during short-day trips.

Cabo Climate: Cool mornings, warm and sunny days through the week and overall, excellent weather conditions with temps that ranged from 54 nights to 84 daytime highs. Windy on the Pacific side of the peninsula but mostly calm on the Sea of Cortez side.

Sea Conditions: Surface conditions remain good on the Sea of Cortez side but cool waters on the Pacific side and some very windy days. The Port Captain closed the Cabo Harbor on Tuesday due to the windy conditions on the Pacific side. Golden Gate Bank and southerly to Cabo Falso at 68 degrees, falling to 65 degrees from Cabo Falso to Chileno, just around the corner from Cabo San Lucas. From there, temps rise to 72-73 out to about 10 miles and continue to rise to 75 degrees at Gorda Banks. Ten miles above the Gorda Banks, from the 100 fathom curve and on out to 12-14 miles or so, temps rise to 79-80-plus degrees and continue on into the northeast.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo in the area from the 95 fahtom spot and northerly to the 1150 fathom spot.

Best Lure/Bait: About half the fish being taken on slow trolled ballyhoo rigged baits, a few taken on the artificials and a few taken on live baits.

Live Bait Supply: The live bait supply remains good for the boats with a mix of mackerel and caballitos, all at the $3.00 each rate and the ballyhoo for rigging still at $3.00 per bait.
