The Puerto Morelos area returned to very nice climate conditions after the hard rains from the week before and the fishing rebounded nicely. Overall, it was an excellent weather-fishing week for the fleet with mostly calm warm water conditions and just enough surface breeze on the water to create a wind ripple. The mixed bag catches for the week for a total of 26 days fished reflected a 10 fish variety that included 1 white marlin, 12 sailfish, 10 dorado, 1 wahoo, 36 bonito, 8 giant barracuda, 6 grouper, 8 triggerfish, 4 banana fish and 1 pargo.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days, a bit humid and very nice evenings, all with temps that ranged from 78 nights to 90 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: A very nice week with mostly calm waters and light & variable surface breezes, gently rolling in from the easterly directions, (the prevailing wind for this area). Sea temperatures were excellent and stable at 84 degrees throughout the region.
Best Bait: The on-going bait of choice remains with the freshly caught ballyhoo, allowing the crew to prepare the baits for the type of fishing requested by the anglers. Billfish & dorado baits can be rigged with or without colored skirts, depending on what's been working best for prior fishing days. Baits can be cut in chunks or slabbed for the bottom fishing anglers and the boats can fish with either surface outriggers or downriggers.
