THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

A mostly cloudy week with off & on again rain but not much wind. Most of the really good fishing is close by at Cabo Falso area and while the fishing at Golden Gate Bank has been superb, there has been no reason to run the extra miles. Multiple marlin days are readily available with 5-6 miles from the Cabo Harbor and the billfish have been staying very cooperative for the anglers and even providing an occasional wahoo, dorado, mako and yellowfin tuna in the mix. High billfish boat for the week was the "Tuna Time", reporting in with 9 stripers released for two fishing days and rounding out their two days with 1 wahoo, 4 yellowfin tuna, 4 dorado and 1 mako shark. The overall combined catch report for a total of 13 days fished reflected a total of 27 stripers, (26 released) 2 wahoo, 9 yellowfin tuna and 75 dorado & 1 mako shark.

Cabo Climate: A mostly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine and rain from light to heavy, depending on the day. Surface winds mostly from the easterly directions from calm to 18 mph. Air temps ranging from 75 nights to 93 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, it's been very good considering the rainy periods that haven't had much effect on the fishing, at all. Temps remain high and range from 82-85 degrees from the Finger Bank, (Pacific side) to Cabo San Lucas and on up to Las Frailes, (Sea of Cortez side). Surface winds have provided some afternoon popcorn but no swell in the area. The Port of Cabo San Lucas was closed on Thursday to all vessels due to inclement weather conditions. Surface winds have been flowing from the southeast and have ranged from nearly calm to 18 mph or so.

Best Fishing Areas: Continue to be in the Cabo Falso/Light House area and at the Golden Gate Bank, both on the Pacific side of Cabo.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait, artificials and even rigged baits have been working very well. Yesterday there were many feeders that popped up and live bait was working very well for multiple strikes.

Live Bait Supply: Remains very good for caballitos and still a good supply of ballyhoo baits for rigging.
