Another terrific fishing week from Cabo San Lucas with the overall average striper count exceeded 3 fish per boat fishing day. An extraordinarily unusual striper bite this year has highlighted the action for the anglers and right now, the billfish are showing up in great numbers at the Golden Gate Bank. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of the Fish Cabo boats, the Golden Gate has really come alive with action and while it is one of the major "hot spots" right now, there is excellent action at other locations, including Cabo Falso to The Arch and scattered billfish in all offshore directions. High boat for the week was the "Gaviota XI", reflecting 18 stripers for 3 days fished and followed by the "Fish Cabo" with 14 stripers for 3 days fished. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 21 days fished reflected 68 stripers, (66 released) and 45 dorado. Roberto did add, the fishing had slowed up a bit over the last couple of days and he attributed the slow down to the full moon condition. He fully expects a rebound in the next few days.
Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy and very hot days thru Thursday, turning to cloudy with rainy days by Friday and thru the weekend, along with a 10 degree drop in daytime temps from Friday thru the weekend.
Sea Conditions: On the Pacific side from Golden Gate down to Jaime Bank, temps at 80-82. Upwelling at Cristobal to Cabo Falso, a 10 square mile block, with temps at 75. Cabo San Lucas to the inner-Gorda Bank and above and from shore to 5 miles off is all at 82 degrees. Outside the 5 mile mark temps rise to 84-85 degrees. Surface winds good thru Wednesday & increasing from Thursday thru the weekend to 18 mph from the southeasterly directions.
Best Fishing Area: Cabo Falso & Golden Gate Banks were the primary "hot spots" this past week but billfish were caught in all directions away from land.
Best Lures/Bait: Artificials were working very well as was live bait and even rigged baits. The billfish were anxious when coming in on the lures and eager to bite.
Bait Supply: No problem with live bait as the supply continues to be good for the caballitos.
