The fishing and charter fishing days rebounded nicely this past week and the weather was more than much improved for the area. High billfish boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo", releasing a total of 6 stripers and rounding out their catches for the 3 fishing days with 1 wahoo and 46 dorado, along with releasing many smaller dorado. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, the dorado bite has soared along the Pacific coastal areas and most of the marlin for their boats came from very close to the shoreline. He adds that they lost a 300-plus lb. blue marlin yesterday that bit on a lure being trolled for dorado while fishing less than 50 meters from the shoreline in the area of Pozo de Cota. He added, the overall catches for dorado is very easy fishing and many dorado are being released to grow bigger. As it is, "we are keeping only the 20-30-pounders and releasing the rest". We are seeing an increase in wahoo strikes throughout the area and the "Gaviota I" boated a nice 70 lb. wahoo fishing out front of the Cabo Falso light house. The overall fish report for a total of 29 fishing days reflected 10 stripers released, 7 sailfish released, 5 wahoo, (to 70 lbs.) 2 yellowffin tuna, 3 skipjack tun and 261 dorado, mostly in the 20-30 lb. class).
Cabo Climate: Super sunny, clear and warm days with pleasant nights and mostly light surface tropical breezes blowing in from the westerly directions and temps that ranged from 68 nights to 91 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Very good to best with calm to 13 mph surface breezes, mostly from the westerly directions. Perfect sea temps at 82 inshore and rising tto 85 offshore from about 3 miles and extending down from TTodos Santos to San Cristobal, From San Cristobal, wrapping around Cabo San Lucas and into the Sea of Cortez, temps increased to 86-87 throughout the area.
Best Lure/Bait: Lures and bait were working equally well, especially for the billfish, the occasional wahoo and the dorado bite.
Best Fishing Area: Several areas are excellent right now for a good chance at the billfish and limit style fishing for dorado.
Bait Supply: Excellent for caballitos and ballyhoo baits for rigging, all at $3.00 per bait.
