The numbers of charters continues to be very slow for the Mazatlan sportfishers but the fishing results have been very good for those that did go. The weather has stabilized for the area right now and the fishing potential has increased enormously, typical for the October time frame. There were only three offshore fishing days this past week that reflected 2 blue marlin, (both under 300 lbs.) 1 striper and 20 dorado. The inshore fishing reflected only one single day resulting in a dozen dorado for the angler efforts. We expect an enormous increase in the fishing action for the coming next 2.5 months and maybe longer, into the New year. Water temps are way up, clarity is good and the area is ripe for a sustained fish bite as we head into October.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temps that ranged from 72 nights to 86 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Near excellent in all areas! Seas are calm with light surface breezes from 0-12 mph and sea temps holding stable at 89 inshore and falling to 86-87 in the offshore waters. Excellent clarity in the offshore waters.
Best Fishing Area: Right now, the blue marlin are seemingly holding in the area from about 15 to 20 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and in the same area seems to be good action for dorado and an occasional striped marlin.
Best Bait/Lure: The dorado are biting well on the artificials and the rigged baits and the billfish best on the rigged baits for the stripers and larger lures for the blue marlin.
Bait Supply: Excellent supply for both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging.
