Nice warm water, good weather, mostly sunny conditions and very good fishing was the "rule of thumb" for the Aries Sportfishing Fleet this past week for both, offshore and inshore fishing. According to our area reporter, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, there were not many charters but for those that did fish, the bite was excellent and provided a good mixed bag catch. The offshore fishing days for 9 trips reflected 2 blu marlin, (2-300 lb. fish) 6 sailfish, (1 released) 7 yellowfin tuna, 1 mako shark and 43 dorado. The inshore super pangas reported in for 5 days fished and had catches that included 12 dorado, 7 yellowfin tuna, 6 corvina, 2 black snook and 39 red snappers.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days and pleasant evenings with a few scattered clouds that increased as the week progressed. Temps ranged from 68 nights to 92 daytime highs and there were 5-10 mph surface breezes, mostly from the westerly directions.

Sea Conditions: Terrific sea conditions with warm water everywhere and holding stable at 84-85 degrees, coupled with soft and light westerly surface breezes and good water clarity at about 16 miles or so.

Best Fishing Area: Remains out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 17-18 miles and outbound from there.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were best for the sailfish and bigger dorado. Dorado colored lures worked well for the blue marlin. Tuna feathers and smaller lures for the yellowfin and smaller dorado.

Bait Supply: Remains excellent for both, fresh baits for rigging and live bait for casting. Live bait remains at $1.00 per bait.
