According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our main man, area representative and attentive reporter for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, the fishing improved this past week, although the clean water moved out to about 20 miles or so. There's a huge area with all kinds of trash and debris and the big dorado bite is right at the edge of the changes. The sailfish are in the same area and we are now waiting for the arrival of the black & blue marlin. It's time for them to start chasing the dorados and bonitos. The inshore bite is almost non-existent due to the dark green, dirty water all along the coast. A few bonito swimming around but it will take more time to clean up sufficiently to bring the roosterfsih and jack crevalle back into our location.
IZ Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent sunshine and very little surface wind flowing in from the westerly directions 5-10 mph. Temps have ranged from 73 nights to 93 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Near excellent. Good temps holding at 85-86 inshore and rising gently to 87 offshore. Clarity is good from about 20 miles and outbound from there. Very little swell.
Best Fishing Area: This past week, best was right about the 20 miles mark where the clarity of the waters changed dramatically and the dorado and sailfish were biting rather well for the anglers. The dorado have been mostly the larger fish, in the 25-35 lb. ranges.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits working well for both, sailfish & dorado and the lures are also working very well for the bigger dorado
