An unusually broad spectrum fish report for this past week reflected a 16 fish variety for the 21 days fished and even included another off-season sailfish in the mix. Both surface and bottom fishing were included in the action with bonito being the fish off the week that was followed by snappers, allowing for diversity with the fishing. The reports for 21 fishing days included the 1 sailfish, 9 king mackerel, 62 bonito, 6 blackfin tuna, 4 giant barracuda, 1 needle fish, 1 hammerhead shark, 1 Spanish mackerel and 5 blue runners for the surface fish and 8 grouper, 29 triggerfish, 2 strawberry fish, 2 amberjack, 24 soap fish 15 grumpy fish and 50 snappers, (a mix of red and yellowtail snappers). It was one of those fishing weeks that left almost everything to surprise and not knowing what was on the other end of the line until the fish reached the surface.
PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days this past week with scattered showers. Temps varied from 69 nights to 86 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Surface breezes from 9-11 mph from the easterly directions. Temps held stable at 83-84 degrees spanning the entire area, all with good clarity.
Best Bait/Lure: The bait focus continues to be the ballyhoo by all of the crews and the anglers, too. There seemingly remains and unending supply of the ballyhoo in this area and we have yet to have any bait difficulties from Puerto Morelos area.
