According to our reporter for Puerto Morelos, Ms. Nayade Gamboa, it was just an incredible fishing week for the Marina El Cid Fishing Fleet in Puerto Morelos, that included two firsts for 2013. The first blue marlin was taken on March 9th by the Schneiner charter group, fishing aboard the "Predator" and the first white marlin was taken on March 11th by the McKechnie charter group, fishing aboard the "Relaxation". The anglers aboard the "Relaxation" also reported a single sailfish, 1 red snapper, 1 bonito and 1 dorado for their day. It was unquestionably a lot of early season action with the billfish and also with the increased dorado catches, too. The overall fish counts for 37 days fished reflected a 20 fish mixed bag catch, (the largest mixed bag catch I have ever reported for this area) that included 1 blue marlin, 1 white marlin, 2 sailfish, 27 dorado, 9 blackfin tuna, 54 bonito, 9 wahoo, 5 king mackerel, 12 giant Atlantic barracuda, 3 jack crevalle, 1 Spanish mackerel, 5 amberjack, 10 rainbow runners, 35 soap fish, 2 porgy, 9 strawberry fish, 21 banana fish, 15 triggerfish, 1 grouper and 55 snappers, (the fish of the week for a 3rd week in a row).

PM Climate: Mostly cloudy but warm days and temps that ranged from 63 nights to 84 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, the temps have held well at 80 degrees throughout the area with no noticeable change or temp breaks for the area. Clarity remains very clear and the surface conditions have been excellent with surface breezes from 5-15 mph.

Best Bait/Lure: The ever available ballyhoo continues to be the bait of choice for the skippers in this area and they are provided fresh caught every morning.
